21 Highview Trail Pittsford, NY 14534 The Prez Sez . . . Here it is December 2003 and I am finishing my first term as president of GVAM. Two years can go by very fast, especially if you’re having fun doing something you love. As I look back on the last two years and my now, six years of total RC flying time, I can honestly say, I’ve met a lot of great people, made a bunch of new friends, learned a lot, and enjoyed every minute of it. When I was first asked to consider running for president, I was surprised. I had been considering maybe going for vice president, or secretary. Surely, there would be others with more experience that would want to be president. Running unopposed for president had not even occurred to me. A little intimidated and definitely unsure of myself, I took on the job. After all, Glenn and Charlie both told me the job would be fairly simple and take very little of my time. I think the most surprising part to me was that they were right! The hardest things I do as President are to run the meetings and write this column, and we only have meetings part of the year. We are a small club that likes to concentrate on flying, not swap meets or flying meets. We do a club picnic in the summer and a dinner in the fall. Other than that, if the sun is out and the wind is down, I’ll see you at the field. I know we’re set for officers for the next two years, but next time around, please consider running for office. Even if you’ve held an office in the past, why not try a different one. It’s not very hard and the benefits and rewards are many. Just ask Eric, our stealth vice president. On a lighter note, remember December 17th, the 100th anniversary of powered flight. The Discovery channel and I’m sure many others will be covering the event. The Wright experience group did a brief successful test flight at Kitty Hawk, in November, of just over 100 feet. Sound familiar? We agreed to put this announcement in the Newsletter and vote on the proposal at the December meeting. At The Field By Glenn Crocker Hopefully the weather will not act up and we will be able to hold our December meeting. With the forecast that was out looked for the November meeting date, it made sense to cancel. We got Charlie’s boat off the ground for the winter and it will be in position at Canadice Lake to be used next spring. I would like to thank John Street for his help. Remember that we have a standing invitation to fly off the snow at the RAMS Macedon field on Tuesday mornings. You can give me a call on Monday nights to learn if we will be flying. Also remember that we will have our 19th Annual Frozen Finger Fly on January 1st 2004. Those of us that are a few bricks short of a load will meet at the field around 10 AM no matter what; fly till we can’t stand anymore of the enjoyment then adjourn to the Country Skillet aka "The Funky Chicken" for some good stuff. I hope you all had a good Turkey Day and did not eat so much that you had to get into the oversized pants If you fly, watch for the plane eating trees and snow snakes. ![]() "It worries me-he’s old, he’s fat…. How much longer do you think the FAA is gonna let him keep flyin’ that sleigh?"
Since we got blown away and cancelled the November meeting, the confirmation of the club officers will take place at the December meeting. I would like to thank Joe Prato who has agreed to accept the nomination for the position of club secretary. I told him the hardest part of the job was listening to Charlie snore. We will make it official at the December meeting For Sale Ace Bingo 40 (not an ARF). Wings are built, fuse is built. Sheeted balsa tail almost ready to cover.
