The Prez Sez . . .

Can you believe summer is half over? As I’m writing this, it’s definitely not very summer like. Not that I have not gotten some flying in, I have. It just seems that we get one or two nice days, then more rain and cold. Well, let’s hope the rest of the summer and the fall are just great.

Speaking of great, I just got back from the STARS Rally at Olean. I think they had the only two nice weekend days in a row we’ve had all summer! Hopefully Glenn will have some pictures to prove it. As usual, the club was well represented and we even had two members flying. Many thanks to Dave Beckwith for doing a great dinner and breakfast, and also to Eric Higham for supplying the Wine, the kind you drink, that is.

While I am thanking people, I want to thank Eric again for getting the new large wood spindles that are now at the field. The old ones were getting pretty shaky. I guess we need to have a bon fire to get rid of the old ones and the old picnic table. Maybe at the club picnic, if the weather is as cold as normal, we’ll need it to keep warm.

Just a brief note on the "Mower Meeting" that was held at the field on the 8th of July. It was decided to pursue the purchase of lawn tractor. A committee of three club members volunteered to investigate mowers, and also to look into the option of having the field mowed by a professional during the wet season. The cost for the project was limited to $4000. The proposal for a new shed and a new hand mower were postponed for now. Another meeting will be held the 3rd week of August on Thursday, to review the committee’s findings.

That’s it for now, see you at the field!

At The Field
By Glenn Crocker

Believe it or not the field has dried out and is very hard. It has been so dry lately that we have skipped some mowing dates because it hadn’t grown enough. Who’d a thunk this would be the case one month ago.

Olean is history for this year. GVAM had their annual contingent. Dave, Eric, Charlie, Joe, Jim, Max and yours truly spent the weekend on the mountain top. We were wondering if we were really at the right place. There was no cross wind! The weather was great; not too hot and not too windy. Max and Jim got a couple of flights in on Saturday. Sunday was better than Saturday and Max took advantage of this with more flights on the Tiger Moth. Saturday evening Chef David took over and we had Steak, Salt Potatoes and Three Bean salad. Cheese and Wine were consumed after the Electric flying. The "UKys" were in the air again this year. Dave is making plans for next year.

The field was being put to good use when I stopped after Olean. I didn’t have enough plane activity at Olean so I had to get to the field and fly. Henry Latka, Ned, Dick and John Ward were taking advantage of the good weather. Charlie stopped by for a fix.

Summer is half done so put it to good use. See you at the field.
